Charging, explained in plain English.

No spec sheet worship — each guide answers one real question in a few minutes of reading, with the physics only where it changes your buying decision.

Three guides answer 80% of the questions we see: what wattage do I need (the device-to-adapter map), USB-C PD explained (why chargers negotiate, and what PPS and PD 3.1 add), and GaN explained (why new chargers are tiny). If something is already broken rather than unbought, start at fixing slow charging instead.

The two-minute diagnostic. Nearly every "my charger is broken" report resolves to one of three things: a cable rated 3A being asked for 5A, a multi-port adapter splitting its budget because something else is plugged in, or a protocol mismatch (PD without PPS on a Galaxy, PD 3.0 without 28V on a 16″ MacBook Pro). Check those three before you buy a replacement.

All 30 guides, by topic

Every guide is self-contained — no reading order, no prerequisites. Group blurbs tell you what a section is for so you can skip six pages at a time.

When you are ready to buy

Guides deliberately do not rank products; the buying side of the site does. Go to the master roundup for one pick per use case, the best-of index for 30 niche lists, chargers by device if you know the machine, chargers by brand if you know the maker, chargers by type for wall, desktop, car and retractable formats, head-to-head comparisons when you are down to two candidates, and the review index for the published profile tables behind every recommendation. The technology hubs sit between the two halves: GaN, multi-port and laptop-class adapters.

FAQ

Which guide should I read first?

'What wattage do I need' — it maps 60-plus devices to an adapter class in about a minute and is the only guide most people need. Read 'USB-C Power Delivery explained' next if you want to understand why a bigger adapter is never a risk.

Do these guides recommend specific products?

No. Guides explain how charging works and how to read a spec sheet; product picks live on the best-of, comparison and review pages, which state their ranking criteria openly. Keeping the two separate is deliberate.

How current are the guides?

Each is reviewed when the underlying standard or a major device changes — the PD 3.1 and EPR sections were updated for 240W USB-C, and the fast-charging guides for the iPhone 17's 60W burst behaviour and the Switch 2's 45W requirement.
