Nothing you own fits a Type I socket without help. US flat pins are parallel; Type I pins are angled. European round pins and British rectangular pins are not close either. There is no hybrid socket and no informal workaround, so the adapter is not optional — it is the trip.
230V and 50Hz, and why neither matters
Read the input line printed on your charger, on the flat face beside the prongs: 100–240V ~ 50/60Hz. Every USB-C brick, laptop supply, tablet charger and camera battery charger sold in the US carries it, which means New Zealand mains is inside the design range and the frequency difference is covered too. A switching supply rectifies AC to DC in its first stage, so 50Hz versus 60Hz changes nothing about the watts it delivers. You need a plug adapter. A voltage converter — a real transformer — is a separate device that only heating elements and AC motors call for.
