Check the input line before you pack: if the shell reads "INPUT 100–240V ~ 50/60Hz" you need a plug adapter only. If it reads 120V alone — rare, and mostly older non-USB accessories — you need a converter.

FAQ

Do I need a voltage converter for a phone charger abroad?

No. USB-C chargers sold in the US are dual-voltage 100–240V, so a plug shape adapter is all that is required. Voltage converters exist for heating elements and motors, such as hair dryers and travel kettles.

How many watts should a travel charger have?

65W is the sweet spot: enough for a laptop, with two ports left for a phone and headphones. Drop to 30W if the laptop stays home, and only go above 65W if you travel with a 16-inch machine.

Are universal travel adapters safe?

The certified ones are, but the category attracts counterfeits. Check for a UL or ETL mark, and treat a suspiciously low price on a high-wattage unit as a warning.

Can I put a charger in checked luggage?

Chargers themselves are fine either way, but anything with a built-in battery must travel in the cabin under airline lithium-ion rules. A plain wall charger has no cell in it, so it is unrestricted.
