Wall adapters: the whole supply hangs off the outlet.
No cord, no brick on the floor, nothing to coil. A wall adapter puts the entire power supply in the plug itself — which is exactly why it is the right shape for a bag and the wrong shape for a desk that runs a laptop at full tilt all afternoon.
What the format buys you
Folding prongs. The single feature that separates a travel-grade unit from a pocket hazard. Fixed prongs gouge everything in a bag and are the first thing to bend; a folding blade set adds a few millimetres of thickness and removes the problem entirely. Apple ships fixed prongs on most US bricks and sells the folding version separately as part of the world travel kit, while nearly every GaN competitor folds as standard.
Zero cable management. One object instead of three. For hotel rooms, airport gate seating and bedside tables, that matters more than any spec.
Dual voltage as standard. Every USB-C wall adapter sold in the US accepts 100–240V, so international use needs a plug shape adapter only — the reasoning lives on converters versus adapters.

Sizing follows the device, not the format: 30W covers phones and small tablets, 65W covers most ultrabooks. FAQ
Are folding prongs worth paying extra for?
For anything that travels, yes. Fixed prongs snag fabric, bend under bag pressure and put a rigid point against a laptop lid. For a brick that lives permanently in one bedroom socket, the feature is irrelevant.
Why does my wall charger get hot?
Conversion loss becomes heat, and a plug-sized body has nowhere to send it except the surrounding air and the outlet plate. Warm at full load is normal. Too hot to hold for more than a second is not, and on a certified unit it should trigger thermal rollback rather than damage.
Can a wall adapter deliver its rated wattage continuously?
Usually, but with less margin than a corded unit. Small enclosures rely on ambient airflow, so a brick wedged behind furniture or under a duvet has no way to shed heat and will throttle. Give it clearance and buy some headroom.
Is a heavier wall charger better made?
Weight correlates with a real transformer and proper potting, so a suspiciously light brick claiming high wattage is a warning sign. But GaN legitimately cuts weight at the same output, so compare within a generation rather than across.
