Anker uses "Prime" across wall chargers, desktop chargers and power banks, with different port layouts. Model numbers matter more than the family name: check the port count, and whether the unit is a wall plug or a corded desktop brick.
What it is genuinely good at
Reaching 140W at all. Ordinary PD tops out at 20V, so 100W (20V × 5A) is the hard ceiling of a PD 3.0 unit; PD 3.1 Extended Power Range adds 28V, and 28V × 5A is where 140W comes from. Where it falls short, and who should skip it
The cable is a second purchase, and not an optional one. Above 100W you need a 240W EPR-rated cable with an e-marker chip: a 60W cable caps the link at 3A, a 100W cable caps it at 20V, and either way the 28V rail never appears — see e-marked cables explained.
The 140W is a total, not a per-port promise. Occupy the other ports and the top one drops to a lower contract; if you need a 16″ MacBook Pro at full speed while two devices charge, budget for the 240W class.
Skip it if your largest device is a 14″ MacBook Pro or smaller. Nothing below the 16″ class requests 28V — you would pay for a rail you never negotiate.

FAQ
Why does a 140W charger need a special cable?
Because 140W is 28V at 5A. A cable with no e-marker chip is limited to 3A, and a 100W e-marked cable is certified only to 20V.
Will the Anker Prime 140W give one port the full 140W?
Only when it is the sole port in use; a second or third device makes the adapter renegotiate the top port down.
Is 140W overkill for a MacBook Air?
Harmless but unnecessary. The Air negotiates its own profile and never draws more than it asks for, so the extra capacity goes unused.
