The 28V rail is why this product exists. PD 3.1 adds 28V, 36V and 48V above the classic 5V/9V/15V/20V ladder, and 140W is 28V at 5A. Above 100W an EPR-rated 5A e-marked cable is also required, and the failure mode is silent: 240W USB-C and PD 3.1 explained.
What it is genuinely good at
It is the reference implementation of PD 3.1 in a consumer brick, where third-party 140W claims often turn out to be 100W parts. With a 16-inch MacBook Pro compiling or driving external displays, it keeps the battery gaining rather than merely not losing. On its lower rails a phone draws what it would from a 20W brick, so 140W cannot damage it.
Where it falls short, and who should skip it
The cable catch is the real story. Full output over USB-C needs a 240W-rated cable; a perfectly good 100W cable holds the negotiation there and tells you nothing. Apple also documents that on earlier MacBook Pro generations 140W comes through MagSafe 3, with USB-C capping lower — check your model year.
It is also single-port and large. Skip it if your laptop is a MacBook Air, a MacBook Pro 14″ or any ultrabook — 96W or 70W covers those — or if you want ports for a phone too.

Buy it for a 16-inch MacBook Pro, with a 240W-rated cable in the same order — the one adapter whose 28V rail is not in question. Anything smaller: a 96W or 100W multi-port GaN.
