How much total power does a 4-port charger need?
Add the four device ceilings and about 20%. A laptop, a tablet and two phones come to roughly 160W, so a 100W unit will throttle and a 240W unit will not. Below 100W, four ports is more sockets than power.
Are USB-A ports worth having on a 4-port charger?
Only for legacy accessories. USB-A cannot carry a Power Delivery profile, so it charges modern devices slowly while still drawing from the shared budget. A three-USB-C layout is the better use of the same pool.
Do all four ports work at full speed simultaneously?
Almost never. Manufacturers publish a division table for two, three and four devices attached, and that table is the charger's real specification.
Is a 4-port charger better than a powered hub?
For charging, yes — a charger delivers full PD rails to each port, where a hub shares one upstream connection and caps power per port. Hubs are for data and displays.
