No USB-C device negotiates 160W. The PD 3.1 fixed rails jump from 140W (28V) to 180W (36V) to 240W (48V), so a 160W charger is always a shared budget across three or four ports — bought to stop devices competing, never to charge one of them faster.

Is 160W the right shape of answer?

If your problem is one hungry laptop, 160W is the wrong purchase — buy 140W with a real 28V rail instead and spend the difference on an EPR cable. If your problem is four devices and one outlet, 160W is a sensible middle: more usable than 120W, cheaper and smaller than 200W or 240W. If nothing on the desk exceeds an ultrabook, 100W already does the job.

Can a 160W charger charge one device at 160W?

No. There is no 160W USB-C contract. The single-port maximum is 100W on PD 3.0 units and 140W on PD 3.1 units; the rest of the budget only reaches other ports.

Is 160W better than 140W?

Only if you are charging several devices simultaneously. For one 16-inch MacBook Pro, a 140W PD 3.1 adapter delivers exactly the same charge rate as a 160W unit.

What cable does a 160W charger need?

Match the cable to the port, not the total. A port claiming 140W needs a 240W EPR-rated cable; a 100W port needs a 5A e-marked cable; accessory ports are fine with ordinary 3A cables.
