MacBook Pro 14″: 67W runs it, 96W finishes it.
Apple ships this machine with either a 67W or a 96W adapter depending on the chip inside, and the difference is real: the 96W is what the fast-charge claim is measured against. On a 65W third-party brick the laptop still works perfectly — it just charges slowly when you are pushing the GPU.
The spec that matters
Max input: 96W on the higher-tier configurations; the base configuration ships 67W or 70W and is happy there.
Protocol: USB-C PD 3.0 at 20V. This machine does not need PD 3.1 — that is the 16″ story.
Cable: above 60W you must have a 5A e-marked USB-C cable, or Apple's USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. A 3A cable silently caps you at 60W and is the most common reason a 96W brick behaves like a 60W one.
If you use less: at 45W the battery can drain during a sustained export even though the machine is plugged in. At 65W that stops being a problem for everything except heavy GPU work.

Don't waste money on
140W bricks bought for this machine. The 28V EPR rail is not requested by the 14″. Buy it only if you also own — or expect to own — a 16″ MacBook Pro.
Cheap cables above 60W. This is the single most expensive false economy in laptop charging: an unrated cable throttles a 96W adapter to 60W with no warning. See e-marked cables explained.

FAQ
Can I use a 65W charger with a 14-inch MacBook Pro?
Yes. It runs the machine and charges it, just more slowly, and under a heavy sustained load the battery may hold steady rather than gaining. Nothing is harmed.
Does it need MagSafe 3?
No. It charges at full speed through any of its Thunderbolt ports with a suitable cable. MagSafe frees a port and detaches safely, which is convenience rather than performance.
Why is my 100W charger charging slowly?
Nine times out of ten, the cable. Anything above 60W requires a 5A e-marked cable; a generic 3A cable caps the contract at 60W without reporting an error.
Is a third-party 100W adapter as good as Apple's 96W?
Electrically, yes, provided it publishes its PD profiles and carries a UL or ETL mark. GaN units at that wattage are usually smaller and add ports Apple's single-port brick lacks.
