An office charger is a shared power budget. Two laptops at 65W each plus two phones at 20W each is 170W of simultaneous demand — which is why the honest starting point for a conference-room unit is 140W and the comfortable one is 240W.

The five criteria applied across this site are delivered watts, protocol correctness, safety certification, size and price per watt, and track record. For shared desks, delivered watts is judged differently: what counts is the split under simultaneous load, not the single-port headline.
A "100W" four-port charger whose primary port collapses to 45W as soon as a colleague plugs in a phone is a poor office product, however good the box number. So the units ranked here publish their allocation tables, and we prefer designs that reserve a laptop-class budget rather than dividing evenly. Two secondary factors matter unusually here: a detachable AC cord, since a unit hanging off a meeting-room socket eventually gets pulled out; and at least one USB-A port for clickers, older headsets and dongles.

What happens when someone unplugs from a shared charger?
The remaining devices renegotiate and may briefly show an interruption; it resolves within a second or two.
Should an office charger have USB-A ports?
At least one is still useful — a USB-A port costs almost nothing in the shared budget.
Is a desktop charger better than a wall-mounted one for an office?
Usually yes. A detachable AC cord removes the prong hinge and the risk of being knocked out of a socket, and desktop units have more thermal headroom.
