India: Type D, and why a Europe adapter is not enough.
India's primary socket is Type D — three large round pins in a triangle, a shape used almost nowhere else. Travelers who pack the Europe adapter they already own find its thin Type C pins rattling loose in a Type D socket: a contact problem, not just an annoyance. The supply is 230V at 50Hz.
Pin diameters decide everything here
Three round-pin standards share Indian wall plates, differing chiefly in pin thickness. That one dimension is why an adapter works or arcs.

Many Indian wall plates are combination units sized for both Type D and the fatter Type M, and small Type C pins will physically enter the Type D holes. Entering is not connecting: 4.0mm pins in 5.08mm shrouds make intermittent contact — a charger that stops and starts, warms up, or leaves the phone at 40% overnight.
230V, and the label that makes it a non-issue
India runs 230V at 50Hz, near enough double the 120V US devices see at home. The distinction is printed on the charger: an input line reading 100–240V ~ 50/60Hz means it needs only a shape change. Every USB-C brick, laptop supply and camera charger sold in the US carries that line. A 120V-only appliance does not, and no plug adapter will save it.

Works as-is vs needs a converter
On a plug adapter alone: phones, laptops, tablets, e-readers, mirrorless and DSLR battery chargers, drone chargers, electric toothbrushes, cordless shavers and power banks. These are all switching supplies with a 100–240V range and 230V sits comfortably inside it.
Needs a converter, or a dual-voltage replacement bought before you fly: hair dryers, straighteners, curling irons, travel kettles and anything that turns electricity into heat or spins an AC motor.
