Costa Rica runs 120V at 60Hz on Type A and Type B sockets — identical to the US, so nothing you own needs an adapter or a converter. Two things are worth planning for: older buildings that offer only two slots, and a climate that makes a wet USB-C port a routine event rather than an accident.

The missing earth pin
Costa Rica's grid is the North American one, but grounding was retrofitted unevenly and older buildings frequently present a plain two-slot outlet. Find the three-prong items in your bag before you leave — usually a short list: an older barrel-plug laptop brick with a detachable IEC cord, Apple's long extension cable (the duckhead in the same box is two-prong), a powered speaker.
The clean fix is not to carry them. A modern USB-C brick is Class II double-insulated — double-square symbol, two blades, no earth pin — and fits every socket in the country. One 65W GaN charger replaces the laptop supply and the phone cube, the same advice the Mexico guide gives.
Humidity, condensation and the wet-port warning
Modern phones detect moisture bridging the pins inside a USB-C connector and refuse to charge — iPhones raise a liquid-detected alert, Galaxy phones a water-drop icon — because current through a wet connector corrodes the contacts. In this climate you will meet it after rain, after a boat trip, and after a day in a damp pocket.
The response is patience, not force: shake the connector downward, leave the port facing down in moving air, and do not push a cable in or use the override prompt on a genuinely wet port. Wireless charging works while a port dries — a real argument for a Qi pad on a tropical trip. Condensation is the quieter version: an air-conditioned-cold laptop carried into humid air fogs internally, so let it reach ambient temperature in the bag before opening it.

What works as-is
Everything.
