Nomad 65W: you are buying the object, not the watts.

Electrically this is a 65W USB-C Power Delivery charger like any other — same 20V rail, same ultrabook fit. What differs is the housing, the finish and the price.

Be clear about what is being sold

Nomad is an accessory design brand — cases, cables, watch bands — whose power adapters exist to complete a desk. The lineup stops below the high end: nothing targets the 140W PD 3.1 class a 16″ MacBook Pro wants. It competes on materials, not ports per dollar. Nobody should expect faster charging: a 65W contract is a 65W contract whatever the shell.

What it's genuinely good at

It looks like furniture, not a dongle. On a visible desk — a shared office, a studio, a kitchen counter — a machined housing is a benefit no spec sheet captures. That is the honest reason to buy it.

Cables. Nomad's strongest category is braided cables rated for laptop current rather than the 3A minimum. An underspecified cable silently caps a good charger — the failure mode in our e-marked cable guide.

Correct wattage. 65W remains the right number for most laptops; the reasoning is on the 65W class page.

Where it falls short

Price per watt is the worst on this site, and that is the review. The same money buys 100W and three ports from a spec-first GaN brand. If the brick lives behind a couch, you are paying for a finish nobody sees.

The lineup has no high end. No 140W, no 240W, no PD 3.1 extended-range voltages — that is CukTech and HyperJuice territory.

Metal housings and heat. A metal shell conducts heat to your fingers more readily than plastic — normal in a certified unit, see why chargers get hot.

PPS is not the brand's pitch. Do not assume 45W Galaxy support. If it is not printed, it is not there.

Device fit

Full speed: MacBook Air M-series including fast charge, MacBook Pro 14″ base, iPad Pro at 30W, Dell XPS 13, ThinkPad and Spectre ultrabooks, Steam Deck at 45W, Switch dock at 39W, every iPhone. Not the right tool: MacBook Pro 14″ under render load, gaming laptops with 100W+ bricks. Not served: MacBook Pro 16″ at 140W, Galaxy Ultra without a printed PPS range, 28V or 48V rails.

Buying tip: if you are paying premium-brand money for a 65W charger, spend the extra few dollars on a 5A-rated cable at the same time. A 3A cable caps you near 60W at 20V and quietly undoes the reason you bought a laptop-class charger — by far the most common cause of "my new charger is slower than my old one".

Buy it, or buy around it

Buy it if the charger is part of a visible setup; buy around it wherever the brick lives out of sight. The same tier at house-brand pricing is the Amazon Basics 65W, the design-versus-spec argument official vs third-party adapters, the size story the 65W GaN page, the index the reviews hub.

FAQ

Does a premium charger charge faster than a cheap one?

No. Speed is set by the negotiated Power Delivery contract, so two certified 65W chargers deliver the same watts. Premium buys materials.

Does Nomad make a 140W charger?

The lineup centres on 65W-class wall units, not the extended-range classes. For a 16-inch MacBook Pro, look at brands building for PD 3.1.

Is a metal charger housing a problem?

Not in a certified unit. Metal conducts heat outward, so the case feels warmer, but certification tests internal temperatures and protection circuits.

Should I buy the matching cable?

For a laptop, a 5A-rated cable is worth buying whatever the brand. Many bundled cables are 3A, limiting you to roughly 60W at 20V.
