Apple Watch: the puck is the charger. The brick barely matters.
No USB-C cable plugs into an Apple Watch. Charging happens through a proprietary magnetic puck, and the only meaningful upgrade is which puck you own — the older USB-A style, or the USB-C fast-charge cable that current models need to hit their published fast-charge times.
The two things that decide your charging speed
1. The puck. Apple sells two: the older Magnetic Charging Cable and the Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable. Fast charging on Series 7 and later, and on Watch Ultra, requires the USB-C fast-charge cable. The older puck will charge those watches, at the normal rate, forever.
2. The adapter behind it. The watch itself pulls single-digit watts — nothing like a phone. What matters is that the adapter can supply a proper USB-C PD contract; a 20W adapter is the safe, cheap, universally recommended pairing, and it also fast-charges an iPhone.

Don't waste money on
High-wattage bricks. The watch requests single-digit watts. A 65W or 100W adapter charges it at precisely the same speed as a 20W — buy those watts for a MacBook Air, not a wrist.
Uncertified magnetic pucks. Third-party pucks must be MFi-licensed to charge reliably; unlicensed ones commonly stop working after a watchOS update and never fast-charge.
Qi charging pads. The watch uses Apple's own inductive system, not the Qi standard, so a universal wireless pad will not charge it at all.

What wattage adapter does an Apple Watch need?
A 20W USB-C adapter is the standard recommendation. The watch draws only single-digit watts, but a proper USB-C PD adapter behind the fast-charge puck is what enables the faster rate on Series 7 and later.
Can I fast charge with the old white puck?
No. Fast charging requires the Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable. The older USB-A puck charges the same watches at the standard rate indefinitely.
Will a Qi wireless charger work?
No. Apple Watch uses a proprietary inductive charger, not Qi, which is why every watch charger has that specific magnetic disc.
Is it safe to charge the watch from a laptop charger?
Yes. The puck and watch negotiate their own small contract; a 96W brick supplies exactly what a 20W one would.
