Amazon Basics: the cheapest charger you can still trust.

Amazon Basics is not a manufacturer. It is a label applied to contract-built hardware that has to clear a retail safety bar, and that is exactly its value: it is the floor price for a charger with a real UL or ETL mark on the housing instead of a marketplace listing full of invented certifications.

The trade you are making

You get certification, returns and a stable listing. You give up the spec sheet. House-brand listings routinely omit PPS support, per-port power splits, PD 3.1 profiles and GaN-versus-silicon construction — not to deceive, but because the SKU behind the label changes as suppliers change. Treat anything unstated as absent: no PPS claim means assume no PPS, no 28V claim means assume no PD 3.1.

That is a different risk from the one that gets people hurt. Counterfeit and uncertified chargers fail at isolation between mains and the USB port; a certified house-brand unit does not. The 20W is the honest hero here. An iPhone peaks around 20–27W, so the cheapest certified 20W USB-C brick charges it at essentially full speed. Nothing above 30W makes a phone charge faster — that money only buys headroom for tablets and laptops.

Who should skip Amazon Basics

Skip it if you own a Galaxy that needs 45W with PPS, if you need verified PD 3.1 at 140W for a large laptop, or if you want a folding plug and a published thermal design — those are reasons to pay for Anker or UGREEN. Are Amazon Basics chargers safe?

The certified ones are. Look for a UL or ETL mark moulded or printed on the housing rather than only claimed in the listing text. That mark is the real dividing line between a house brand and an anonymous marketplace charger.

Do Amazon Basics chargers support PPS?

Assume not unless the listing explicitly says PPS. Without it, a Galaxy S Ultra falls back to standard Power Delivery speeds instead of 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0.

Is the 20W enough for an iPad?

It charges every iPad, and it is the right size for a base iPad. An iPad Air or Pro will charge noticeably faster on a 30W-class adapter because those models can draw around 30W.
