Super Fast Charging is just PPS with a marketing name.

Two tiers, one standard. Super Fast Charging is 25W of USB-C PPS; Super Fast Charging 2.0 is 45W of the same thing with a wider current allowance. Neither is proprietary, and that is exactly why so many chargers miss it.

The handshake, step by step

Plug a Galaxy into a USB-C charger and four things happen in under a second:

  1. The charger advertises its power data objects — a list of what it can supply. Fixed objects look like "9V at 3A". Programmable objects (APDOs) look like "3.3–11V, up to 4.05A".
  2. The phone reads that list and picks the object closest to its battery pack voltage, because the smaller the gap between supply voltage and cell voltage, the less energy is burned as heat inside the handset.
  3. It requests a specific voltage in 20mV increments and starts pulling current, adjusting the request continuously as the cells fill.
  4. The lock screen labels the result. "Super Fast Charging" means a PPS object was found and the 25W tier engaged. "Super Fast Charging 2.0" means the object also had the current headroom for 45W. Plain "Fast Charging" means no usable PPS was offered and the phone dropped to fixed-rail PD, typically around 15W.

The three tiers, and who is in them

Notice what is not on that list: wattage of the charger itself. A 240W desk brick with the wrong PPS objects sits in row one. A 45W brick with the right ones sits in row three. Wattage is a ceiling, not a qualification.

Reading a listing in ten seconds: ignore the big number on the box. Find the output block and look for a line beginning "PPS:". If it reads 3.3–11V and the current is 4A or more, an Ultra will hit 45W. If it stops at 3A, you get 25W. If the letters PPS never appear, you get about 15W.

FAQ

Is Super Fast Charging a proprietary Samsung standard?

No. It is USB-C Power Delivery with the PPS extension, an open part of the USB-C specification. Samsung simply brands the two speed tiers it supports.

Why does my phone say 'Fast Charging' instead of 'Super Fast Charging'?

The adapter advertised no PPS profile the phone could use, so it fell back to a fixed PD rail at roughly 15W. Check the adapter's output block for a PPS line.

Does Super Fast Charging work over wireless?

Samsung uses the same marketing name for its 15W wireless standard, but that is an unrelated inductive protocol. PPS applies only to wired USB-C charging.

Will Super Fast Charging wear my battery out faster?

PPS is designed to reduce heat in the phone by moving voltage conversion into the adapter, and heat is the main driver of cell ageing. Charging overnight at low current remains gentlest.
