GoPro: a 20W brick is already more than the camera can use.
Every HERO since the 8 charges over USB-C, and the camera's draw sits in the low-to-mid teens of watts — a fraction of any modern adapter. The wattage question is settled in a sentence. What actually decides whether you shoot all day is batteries and heat.
What the camera draws
Input: USB-C, in the 10–18W class. Protocol: USB-C PD, with a 5V fallback that works from anything. GoPro's own Supercharger accessory was a dual-voltage 5V/9V unit, which tells you the shape of the requirement: a small PD brick with a 9V step charges fastest, and a plain 5V source still works, just slower. A 20W USB-C PD charger saturates the camera completely; a 65W laptop brick charges it at exactly the same rate.
Cable: any USB-C to USB-C rated 3A. The only cable property that matters on a GoPro is physical — a slim connector shell that clears the side door, and a jacket that survives being coiled in a bag.
Charging vs powering while recording
These are different jobs and the second is where people get caught out. A HERO recording 4K or 5.3K at high frame rates consumes a meaningful share of what the adapter is supplying, so charging while recording is slow at best. Two extra effects stack on top:
Heat throttles charge current. A camera that is hot from recording deliberately reduces how fast it takes charge. Plugged into a strong adapter in a hot car, a GoPro can gain almost nothing until it cools.
Weak sources go backwards. A laptop USB port or a car socket delivering half an amp cannot keep up with an active recording, so the battery falls while the light says it is charging.

Don't waste money on
